Legal and Legislative Counsel
Sloan Schickler is the Legal and Legislative Counsel for the NVLA and serves as an associate director on the Board. She is the founder of the NVLA’s women’s initiative that began at last year’s annual conference and has become the NVLA’s Women in Leasing Committee.
Sloan is highly experienced in all aspects of vehicle finance and her firm, and its predecessors, have been a leader in this area for decades. Her practice includes commercial and consumer leasing, retail installment sales and dealer floor plan finance, syndicated revolving credit facilities, asset securitization, corporate structuring and governance, regulatory licensing and compliance and real estate finance. Clients have included major commercial banks, financial institutions, investment banks, captive finance companies, leasing companies, replace manufacturers, replace dealerships, real estate investors, hedge funds and public and closely held corporations.
Sloan has served as outside general counsel to vehicle finance companies; she advocates for her clients before the New York legislature; she has designed documentation and compliance procedures for financing recourse loans collateralized by vehicles leases and loans; documented numerous sales and financings of vehicle lease and loan portfolios including at foreclosure; and served as special counsel in bankruptcy and work out and loan modification matters.
Sloan’s career began at Holland & Knight as a commercial litigation associate. She is now a founder and managing partner of Schickler & Schickler PLLC. She is admitted to practice in the State of New York, S.D.N.Y., E.D.N.Y., the U.S. Tax Court and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Background
Martin Bryan Accounting and Consulting is a group of seven accounting professionals whose sole focus is to serve the automotive industry, with specific expertise in BHPH and LHPH dealerships. Four members on the MBAC team are active CPAs, and the team has a combined 50+ years of accounting experience.
Chad Martin, CPA, is a partner at MBAC. He graduated with a BS in Accounting and obtained his CPA license in 2003. He worked in public accounting for 5 years where he prepared corporate audits and tax returns for a variety of industries, as well as individual tax returns. He then moved into corporate accounting for 15 years, with 7 of that being in the BHPH and LHPH space. He was the controller of a BHPH operation with 8,500 accounts over 16 lots. He also served as the CFO for a 6,000 account operation with both LHPH and BHPH accounts. He has experience with dealership mergers and acquisitions and the purchase and valuation of portfolios.
At end of 2019, he started Martin Consulting and Management, now MBAC, to provide dealers access to the skill and expertise dealers need, but do not have the financial ability to hire someone full-time. The majority of his dealer clients are LHPH operators. His hands on experience within a dealership, mixed with his behind-the-scenes audit experience, provides a unique skill set to ensure his clients financial results are set up for success when it comes time for their year-end work. This experiences also allows for a great understanding of how operations, accounting and the resulting analytics all interact and tell the story of the operations and financial health of a dealership. Chad resides in Kansas City with his wife, two boys, and two girls.
JP Bryan, CPA, is a partner at MBAC. He graduated with a BS in Economics from Wabash College and obtained is post-baccalaureate professional accountancy degree at the University of Southern Indiana. He obtained his CPA license in 2014. JP worked in public accounting for 12.5 years at Katz Sapper, & Miller as an auditor and accounting consultant, primarily serving the BHPH and LHPH space, as well as specialty finance companies. In May 2021, JP left his role as audit director with Katz and joined Chad to form MBAC.
JP, primarily in the role of auditor, has witnessed dozens of businesses manage through prosperity and challenge for more than a decade. JP understands the process successful CEOs and CFOs take to navigate their company financially through different business cycles. Furthermore, in his years as an auditor, he has extensive exposure to the many pillars of successful financial management, such as financial reporting and forecasting, the internal control environment, managing material cost volatility, lending relationships, and many others. JP lives in Indianapolis with wife and two boys.
Bryan Burns, CPA, graduated with a BS in Accounting and Finance from Indiana University in Indianapolis in 2011. He obtained his CPA license and worked as an auditor in public accounting for nine years, most recently with Katz, Sapper & Miller. As a manager with KSM, Bryan worked primarily in the BHPH and LHPH space performing financial statement audits and preparation, as well as various project work for his clients. He recently spent a year and a half as a site controller for a publicly-traded manufacturing company, where he gained experience with performing monthly closing, budgeting, and forecasting duties. Bryan joined MBAC in August 2021.
During his time in public accounting, Bryan worked with BHPH and LHPH dealers of various sizes all across the country. He helped to guide CFOs, Controllers and Stakeholders through an ever-changing accounting landscape, particularly with changes to revenue recognition and credit loss standards. Bryan resides in Indianapolis with his wife.
